Reveal

Reveal, Unveil, Unmask, “Remove Veil or Mask”, etc.

As the phenomena gains in richness, colors stream and mingle at the edges of things and
colored objects stand revealed in all their characteristic drug-state vividness.

As the universe reveals its true essence as a cosmic play of consciousness, the world of
matter is destroyed in the psyche of the individual.

Drugs like LSD reveal something of the otherwise dimly visible expanse of the mind and
suggest that its vast potential is scarcely to be comprehended.

Human experience is determined as much by the nature of the mind and the structure of
its senses as by external objects whose presence the mind reveals.

If we are ever to discover how we can best cooperate with the psyche, we have to allow it
to reveal its true nature to us.

Intense beauty and intense pleasure are always gratuitous and are revealed only to senses
that are not seeking and straining.

It is prohibited in highly technological and complex civilizations to lift the reality curtain
and gaze upon the naked beyond.

LSD rips away the facade that keeps us from understanding how preoccupied we may
have become with the trivial.

Mythology, the repository of a culture’s sacred history, reveals the relevance and
universal nature of the experience of death and rebirth.

No matter how much mental training and psychological exploration had been done,
further realms of experience could be revealed by the psychedelics.

Painful experiences can be as personally revealing and permanently beneficial as
experiences of great joy and beauty.

Suchness of the divine Ground of all being reveals itself to those in whom there is no
ego-centeredness, either of will, imagination, feeling or intellect.

The content and nature of the experiences are authentic expressions of the psyche,
revealing its functioning on levels ordinarily not available for observation and study.

The experience is often so deeply revealing and moving that one hesitates to approach it
again until it has been thoroughly “digested” and this may be a matter of months.

The full splendor of sexual experience does not reveal itself without a new mode of
attention to the world in general.

The illusion that India tried for thousands of years to unmask is the same illusion that the
West has labored to maintain and strengthen.

The mind is the key to life, for under illusion, it creates confusion and when clarified, it
reveals the Buddha nature.

The most strongly enforced of all taboos is the taboo against knowing who or what you
really are behind the mask of your apparently separate, independent and isolated ego.

The personality is touched to its core and is led into provinces of psychic life otherwise
unexplored. Light is shed on boundaries otherwise dark and unrevealed.

The religions of the world either worship sex or repress it; both attitudes proclaim its
centrality. To understand the mysteries, always look for what is veiled.

The screens that obscure who one really is are removed and one can sense a personal
positive essence.

The structures and the masks he has built up over the years suddenly disappear and he is
cast free to ponder on the ultimate reality of things without restraint.

The transpersonal experiences revealing the Earth as an intelligent conscious entity are
corroborated by scientific evidence.

The veil—the web of maya as the Hindus call it—fell away from our eyes as we opened
the doors of perception.

The very use of the term “the unconscious” for the inmost depths reveals how little
Western man knows of what is actually his central consciousness.

There came a knowing beyond all doubting, convictions unshakable in their strength, as
if LSD had pulled back a curtain and allowed the light of wisdom to shine through.

This unprogrammed mode of attention, looking AT things without looking FOR things,
reveals the unbelievable beauty of the everyday world.

Totalitarian states know that the artist is not a harmless eccentric but one who, under the
guise of irrelevance, creates and reveals a new reality.

Because of their clarity and vividness, transcendent states frequently feel more real than
“ordinary” reality; people often compare the discovery of these realms to awakening from
a dream, removing opaque veils, or opening the doors of perception.

Continued penetration into the unconscious does not reveal increasingly bestial and
hellish regions, as indicated by psychoanalysis, but rather extends into the cosmic realms
of the superconscious.

Every initiation into what lies behind the passing show involves an unmasking which is
the same thing as the death of the role or identity that one has assumed in the socio-
political game.

Much of the key information about the nature of rites is usually considered sacred; it is
kept secret and transmitted within small circles to initiates. If the material is revealed to
the external world, it occurs traditionally in various cryptic forms.

One perceives objects and people’s faces and movements of limbs in a peculiarly stylized
manner as if the essences or underlying idea was struggling or better pressing to reveal
itself.

Perhaps they reveal the “normal” state. To many people, the states of awareness that are
experienced are not “abnormal,” but rather, familiar territory that had been lost in some
primal amnesia. These states are the human heritage.

The magnification of inherent colors and essences can become so intense that common
boundaries are dissolved, as adjacent forms bleed into one another, revealing the delicate
underlying web that links all forms.

The self reveals itself to consciousness more completely than has been possible hitherto,
with consciousness “living” the ensuing symbolic drama in terms of patterns that have
become simultaneously personal and universal. (eyes closed)

The spirituality revealed in the process of focused self-exploration sees God as the Divine
Within. Here the individual uses various techniques that mediate direct experiential
access to transpersonal realities and discovers his or her own divinity.

The subject confronts figures from mythology with a shock of recognition, seeing in the
figures now revealed as inhabitants of his own deep psyche, enigmatic bearers of ancient
answers to the riddle of existence. (eyes closed)

The veil which made you see duality drops away and you experience the world as a
blissful sport of God’s energy. You see the universe as supremely blissful light,
undifferentiated from yourself and you remain unshakable in this awareness.

The wise man has penetrated through the verbal curtain, seen and known and felt the life
process. The great writer is the wise man who feels compelled to translate the message
into words.

There is an intense feeling of compassion for those who, for whatever the reason, make it
impossible for themselves to get anywhere near the reality revealed by the drug—the
reality which is always there for those who are in the right state of mind to perceive it.

We have at our finger tips a material and method by which we can draw back the heavy
curtain of our underconscious mind and release into the bright light of our conscious
mind many of the dark and troubling mysteries of our inner selves.

Colors are bright and glowing, the outlines of objects are defined as they never have been
before, spatial relationships are drastically altered, several or all of the senses are
enormously heightened—“all at once” the world has shed its old, everyday facade and
stands revealed as a wonderland.

He takes a fantastic inner journey into the unconscious and superconscious mind. These
drugs thus reveal and make available for direct observation, a wide range of otherwise
hidden phenomena that represent intrinsic capacities of the human mind and play an
important role in normal mental dynamics.

One enters the other world by breaking a shell: or through a door: through a partition: the
curtains part or rise: a veil is lifted. The “ego” is the instrument for living in this world. If
the “ego” is broken up or destroyed, then the person may be exposed to other worlds,
“real” in different ways from the more familiar territory.

The drug can mediate access to vast repositories of concrete and valid information in the
collective unconscious and make them available to the experient. The revealed
knowledge can be very specific, accurate and detailed; the data obtained in this way can
be related to many different fields.

You have to pass beyond everything you have learned in order to become acquainted
with the new areas of consciousness. Ignorance of this fact is the veil which shuts man
within the narrow confines of his acquired, artificial concepts of “reality”, and prevents
him from coming to know his own true nature.

As in the case of other transpersonal experiences, episodes of organ, tissue and cellular
consciousness can be associated with many concrete insights; various details concerning
anatomy, histology, physiology and chemistry of the body found in the accounts of such
experiences often reveal a level of information that the subject did not have before the
sessions.

I pronounced that LSD was the greatest discovery man had ever made. It has such
enormous potential because the mind is infinite. LSD opens up the resources of the mind.
Since the mind is the most important aspect of the human being, what could possibly be
more important than a drug that revealed the awesome, infinite potential that lies within?
(That was Timothy Leary.)

It was as though a veil had been stripped away and certain things had become suddenly
self-evident. I realized that there was just one force in the universe. There is only one
energy and that is consciousness. And there is only one consciousness, one mind, and we
are, in fact, one with this, which means we are all one. I felt this was a revelation of the
true nature of reality.

Leary believed that the human race is presently evolving to a higher level of
consciousness and a greater spiritual awareness. His research with LSD seemed to bear
out the fact that our nervous systems are equipped to receive a vastly greater spectrum of
reality than we realized; and once the veils of perception are cleansed, wars, racism,
competitiveness and violence will be seen as old, outgrown, pre-human traits.

LSD is a unique and powerful tool for the exploration of the human mind and human
nature. Psychedelic experiences mediate access to deep realms of the psyche that have
not yet been discovered and acknowledged by mainstream psychology and psychiatry.
They also reveal new possibilities and mechanisms of therapeutic change and personality
transformation.

Modern consciousness research has confirmed the basic thesis of perennial philosophy
that the consensus reality reveals only one aspect or fragment of existence. There are
important realms of reality that are transcendental and transphenomenal. The impulse in
human beings to connect with the spiritual domain is an extremely powerful and
important force. It resembles, in its nature, sexuality.

Normal waking consciousness may be replaced by aesthetic consciousness and the world
will be perceived in all its unimaginable beauty, all the blazing intensity of its
“thereness.” And aesthetic consciousness may modulate into visionary conscious-ness.
Thanks to yet another kind of seeing, the world will now reveal itself as not only
unimaginably beautiful, but also fathomlessly mysterious.

Our capacity to think, except in the service of what we are dangerously deluded in
supposing is our self-interest and in conformity with common sense, is pitifully limited:
our capacity to even see, hear, touch, taste and smell is so shrouded in veils of
mystification that an intensive discipline of unlearning is necessary for anyone before one
can begin to experience the world afresh, with innocence, truth and love.

The discovery of brain-change drugs has been compared to the discovery of the
microscope. New forms swim into perception. It’s a truism that you cannot impose the
ethics and language of the past upon the subject matter revealed by a new extension of
the senses. Galileo was arrested for describing what he saw in his telescope. The
inquisition would not bother to look through the lens.

We use all sorts of drugs to ease our minds but none to reveal our minds. We seem to
want change, but not understanding. Most of us have never heard of psychedelic drugs,
and those who have would never think of using one themselves. Although man has used
drugs in religious rites to discover his relationship with God since the dawn of history,
the Judeo-Christian mind cannot accept such practices.

Where the symbolic dramas unfold, the individual finds facets of his own existence
revealed in the person of Prometheus or Parsifal, Lucifer or Oedipus, Faust or Don Juan
and plays out his personal drama on these allegorical and analogic terms or he finds the
means of attaining to new levels of maturity through his participation in rites of passage
and other ceremonies and initiations. (eyes closed)

You have to go out of your mind to use your head. You have to pass beyond everything
you have learned in order to become acquainted with the new areas of consciousness.
Ignorance of this fact is the veil which shuts man within the narrow confines of his
acquired, artificial concepts of “reality” and prevents him from coming to know his own
true nature.

Leary the scientist, Alpert the intellectual and later the mystic, Metzner the scholar: what
held these three together was their shared faith in the power of the transcendent
experience to remove the blinders that keep us at odds with each other. A world where all
humans have access to the mystical experience would be a world transformed, they
believed. Everyone would then directly see what Jesus, Buddha, Moses and Mohammed
preached.

A newer and fuller significance of individual human existence will be revealed.
All beings are the mask of the one, divine Self.
Depth upon depth of truth seems revealed.
It looks like the ceiling opens up and God looks in.
Man creates in transcending himself, in revealing himself.
New dimensions of human relationships are revealed.
Reality is a curtain for people who haven’t got the courage for acid.
Spiritual insight reveals a mystery and magic.
The drug can help to uncover one’s “essential self”.
The truth is revealed by removing things that stand in its light.
The truth reveals itself in its eternal tranquility.
The veil of routine perception will be torn from your eyes.
When will the veil be lifted? When will the charade turn to carnival?

I felt that I was being transported to some mysterious place where the secrets of life and
the universe were revealed.

I gazed and was humbled forever as I saw the unsheathed face of the Being cleared of all
his veils.

It reveals the soul. My own experience under LSD was the revelation of my soul to me.
There can be no deeper experience, or more profound revelation.

It seemed that everything there is between heaven and earth had been revealed to him,
what Jung called the “absolute knowledge of the unconscious.”

It was a process that unveiled some of the deepest mysteries of life, mysteries which I
never dreamed could be revealed.

It was as if a veil fell from my eyes. The shapes and colors in the room stood out more
brightly and clearly, and everything seemed imbued with life.

It was the classic visionary voyage and I came back a changed man. You are never the
same after you’ve had the veil drawn.

My gratitude for the moment when the veil parted and I knew that “I” am so much more
than I thought was so immense that I often discovered myself sobbing with joy.

Now that he was aware of “countless realities”, routine existence had been revealed to
him as “illusory.”

“Peeling the onion” of my conditioning revealed much that I had unthinkingly accepted
as “the way things are.”

The expansion of all visible things had been growing toward its height; it now revealed it
and to the fullest extent I apprehended what is meant by the infinity of space.

The knowledge that was suddenly revealed to me under LSD seemed to be remembered
rather than learned.

The revelation had come. The veil had been pulled back. The classic vision. The
fullblown conversion experience. The prophetic call. The works. God had spoken.

I gave way to delight, as mystics have for centuries when they peeked through the
curtains and discovered that this world, so manifestly real, was actually a tiny stage set
constructed by the mind. There are a sea of possibilities out there (in there?), other
realities, an infinite array of programs for other futures.

A curtain was lifted and I saw the magnitude of life and was totally absorbed by it. The
moment lasted just a minute or two, but it embraced a lifetime. I suddenly understood the
cliché of oneness, that everything in the world is connected and part of a Whole, and that
that interlinkage is a truer characterization of the relationship of things than that of me
and my body being separate from all other men and their bodies.

For the first time, I understood the meaning of “ineffable”. There seemed to be no
possibility of conveying in words the subjective truth of my experience. A veil had been
lifted from my inner vision, and I felt able to see, not just images or forms, but the nature
of truth itself. The doors of perception were so cleansed, they seemed to vanish
altogether, and there was only infinite being. Krishnamurti’s characterization of truth as a
pathless land seemed an appropriate description of this domain.

The perennial philosophy and the esoteric teachings of all time suddenly made sense. I
understood why spiritual seekers were instructed to look within, and the unconscious was
revealed to be not just a useful concept, but an infinite reservoir of creative potential. I
felt I had been afforded a glimpse into the nature of reality and the human potential
within that reality, together with a direct experience of being myself, free of illusory
identifications and constrictions of consciousness.

I felt I had uncovered a truth.

I had the sense of being with God and he was revealing life to me.

It revealed to me deeps of rapture.

It revealed to me new and uncharted areas of the human unconscious.

It was as if an ancient truth had been revealed to me.

  1. Since opening my eye it has been impossible to close, I’ve been so moved by my experience that I was convinced it was all real. Now that I have finally found what I’ve been searching for, (evidence to say I was right all along) I have been surrealy fulfilled. What you have described was my exact experience on LSD. Thank God for my revelation. I feel wonderful.
